A neighbourhood club
Westfield was built by people who didn’t have a club to go to, so they made one. Every couple of decades, someone’s idea has nudged us along — and somehow the kettle never quite stops boiling.
1958
A handful of council groundsmen pooled wages to lay two courts behind the Victorian pavilion.
1973
Three weeks of sandwiches, lemon squash and racket sport for any kid in the postcode. Still runs every August.
2014
Floodlights and a second pair of glass-walled padel courts arrive — funded by a memorable bake sale season.
2024
Full resurfacing with fresh synthetic turf and silica sand, a refurbished clubhouse, and a roster of coaches running sessions seven days a week.
Four courts
Synthetic turf with silica sand infill, glass walls and steel-mesh ends. Floodlights stay on until ten — and the bar serves until eleven.
Slow, fair and forgiving sand-infill turf inside a panoramic glass enclosure — our resident coaches favour this one for lessons.
The by-3 favourite. South-facing, sheltered by lime trees, and the prettiest court in the park come July.
Resurfaced in 2024. Fresh silica sand, true rebound off the glass, and lit until 10pm for after-work matches.
Junior-ready and tournament-marked, with full steel-mesh ends and panoramic glass sides. The first court to fill on Saturdays — book early.
The original 1958 pavilion, refurbished in 2024. Changing rooms, hot showers, a small pro shop, and a bar that does the best chips in the postcode.

“I joined Westfield the week I moved to Birmingham — I knew literally nobody. Three months in, I had a by-3 partner, a standing supper invite, and I’d finally stopped flinching every time the ball came off the glass. It’s the friendliest club I’ve ever played at.”

“The juniors programme is the best in Edgbaston. My two are at the club five days a week in summer, and I genuinely don’t see them again until tea.”

“Coach Sam fixed my bandeja in three sessions. Twelve months later I’m holding my own in the Saturday roll-up and frankly enjoying a racket sport for the first time since I was twenty-two.”

“We use the corporate membership as a small staff perk and it’s genuinely the most-used benefit we offer. The pavilion bar after a Friday doubles match is half the appeal.”
