Welcoming
Every member, from absolute beginner to seasoned veteran, finds a partner and a place at Riverside.
Four well-kept courts, a warm clubhouse, and a community that’s been welcoming new members since 1932. Whether you’re here for social doubles or your county league, you’ll find a home at Riverside.
“Open courts every morning at 7”
Our story
Riverside Tennis Club was founded in 1932 by a group of locals who wanted somewhere unhurried to play after work. Three generations later, the willows still lean over the towpath and the kettle is still always on.
We’re a member-run, not-for-profit club. Every penny goes back into the courts, the coaching and the community.
Every member, from absolute beginner to seasoned veteran, finds a partner and a place at Riverside.
Our four courts are tended daily, with a team that’s been here longer than most of the trees.
All-weather surfaces, floodlit evenings, a clubhouse that’s always warm. Tennis through every season.
Courts & facilities
Tended daily, lit beautifully, and surrounded by the kind of greenery that makes you forget you’re in zone 2.
Our flagship court, framed by the old willow tree. Floodlit, reservable until 10pm.
Quiet, west-facing and perfect for late-afternoon doubles. Match-play favourite.
Fast-paced and freshly resurfaced last spring. Best court for a powerful baseline game.
A proper English grass court, lovingly tended by our greenkeeper Tom. Open seasonally.
Coaching at the club

“Priya rebuilt my serve in two sessions. I'd given up on it after twenty years.”
“The Saturday juniors session is the only thing the kids set their alarm for.”

What’s on
Tournaments, socials and the kind of long Sunday afternoons that made you fall in love with tennis in the first place.
Voices from the clubhouse
“I joined three years ago, knowing absolutely no one. Within a month I had a regular doubles partner, a Tuesday night supper crowd, and a forehand that finally listens. Riverside is genuinely a community.”

“The coaching here is the best in south London. Priya rebuilt my serve in two sessions, and the courts are always immaculate. I’ve been at four other clubs — none feel as much like home as this one.”

“Our two boys started in the junior camp and now play county-level. The club has been so generous with their time, and the towpath walk afterwards is the best part of every Saturday.”

“What I love is how unstuffy it is. There’s no dress code, no committee politics, no pressure to play if you don’t fancy it. Just good tennis, good people, and a really, really nice cup of tea.”
