Voices from the pavilion

What members say.

  1. I joined in 1997 and stopped counting the friendships somewhere around 2003. The grass courts in June are the closest thing south London has to a small miracle.

    Member since 1997 · Competition

  2. It’s the kind of club where the bar staff know your tipple, the coach remembers your serve, and the cat will sit on your gear if you leave it unattended. I cannot recommend it more highly.

    Idris Wakefield

    Member since 2018 · Intermediate

  3. Three of my four children learned to play tennis here. They’ve since left for university and other lives — but every time they come home, the first thing they ask is whether Lady Catherine still rules the pavilion.

    Pranavi Subramanian

    Family member since 2008

  4. I came expecting it to feel stuffy, given the seal and the centenary plaques and the founding date in Roman numerals. It is genuinely the warmest club I’ve ever played at — and the only one with a kitchen garden.
